Ammonium Bicarbonate Supplier, Exporter & Global Wholesaler
PAU Chemicals is an India-based global supplier and exporter of Ammonium Bicarbonate in food and technical grades, serving biscuit and cracker bakeries, ceramics and rubber processors worldwide.
Ammonium Bicarbonate is a white crystalline powder with a faint ammonia odour, best known in baking as baking ammonia. It decomposes cleanly on heating into ammonia, carbon dioxide and water, leaving no residual salt in the finished product.
That property is exactly why bakers prefer it for low-moisture goods such as biscuits, crackers and cookies — it gives strong lift and a crisp, open texture without the aftertaste that residual sodium leavening can leave.
PAU Chemicals supplies food grade meeting FCC and E503(ii) requirements, alongside technical grade for ceramics, rubber foaming and industrial use.
Pro Tip: Use it only in low-moisture, thin baked goods. In cakes and other high-moisture products the ammonia cannot fully escape during baking and leaves a detectable odour.

What is Ammonium Bicarbonate, and what is it called locally?
It is a white crystalline leavening salt, universally known in bakeries as baking ammonia or powdered ammonia. As a food additive it carries the number E503(ii).
What is it used for?
Mainly as a leavening agent in biscuits, crackers, cookies and wafers. Technical grade is used in ceramics, as a blowing agent in rubber and plastic foams, in chrome leather tanning and in fire extinguishing compositions.
How is it different from baking soda?
Baking soda leaves sodium carbonate behind, which can give a soapy aftertaste. Ammonium bicarbonate breaks down completely into gases and water, leaving no residue — which is why it produces a crisper biscuit.
Why does my product smell of ammonia after baking?
It is being used in a product with too much moisture or too much thickness for the ammonia to escape. Restrict it to thin, low-moisture baked goods, or blend it with another leavening system.
Do you supply food grade?
Yes. Food grade meets FCC and E503(ii) requirements with controlled heavy metals, arsenic and chloride, and carries its own Certificate of Analysis. Technical grade must not be used in food.
How should it be stored, and what is the shelf life?
In sealed bags in a cool, dry place below 25 °C, away from heat and acids. It decomposes from around 36 °C, so warm storage causes loss of strength and caking.
What packing sizes and minimum order quantity do you offer?
25 kg lined bags and 500/1,000 kg jumbo bags. Export MOQ is 1 FCL
Which ports and Incoterms do you ship on, and how long does delivery take?
We load from Hazira and Nhava Sheva on EXW, FOB, C&F and CIF terms, typically 3 to 4 weeks, shipping as general cargo.
